Report: Race 1 Quotes, Oschersleben 2009

Round 5 Press Conference and other quotes

Thomas Accary (#3 Hexis Racing AMR Aston Martin DBRS9) – 1st Place
“A good race; a very hard race because Dino [Lunardi] did a really good job, he put me under a lot of pressure, but I made no mistakes.  I then came in for my pitstop to hand over to Julien."

Julien Rodrigues (#3 Hexis Racing AMR Aston Martin DBRS9) – 1st Place
“The team did a very good job in the pitstop and afterwards the race wasn't so difficult for me; it was a very good race. After the pitstop I did three very good laps and we were able to hold our lead.  I saw the Audi closing and I knew the Aston Martin has less performance than the Audi.  I stayed on my line and I wanted to win this race with Thomas.  The result is good for us and very good for the championship. This is my first win in FIA GT3 and I'm very happy to be here."

Christopher Mies (#26 Phoenix Racing Audi R8 LMS) – 2nd Place
“A good start but it was difficult because all the cars went to the inside and I had contact with another car, but it was OK and I could push.  The BMW is so fast on the straight there was no chance for us to overtake. I did my best and it was a good. Adria was very bad for us and it is good to be back on the podium in our home race; we are very happy with the second place. The car has been very good this weekend from the first practice session we were quickest.  We made some changes, we were in 10th position and now we are in second."

Christopher Haase (#26 Phoenix Racing Audi R8 LMS) – 2nd Place
“I raced here last year and in 2007 also, I like Oschersleben.  It took some time to overtake the Ford, it was very difficult, I think he had a problem with his tyres and could get on the throttle on the exit of the corner.  I was five tenths quicker and I had good pace once I was past."

Dino Lunardi (#2 Matech GT Racing Ford GT) – 3rd Place
“The race was very difficult but I know Thomas [Accary] because we drove together.  I had a good start, I was second, and I tried to follow Thomas after the start. He was pushing hard and I tried to follow his rhythm.  He was faster than me in the fast corners and on braking I was better than him, so for me it was impossible to overtake so I preferred to save the tyres for Eric [de Doncker].  The car is very, very difficult to drive here, we have a lot of oversteer.  We lost the race in the last lap before the pitstop because I followed the Fischer Ford GT and he dropped a lot of oil on the track.  I lost three or four seconds and if Eric had been able to get out of the pits in front of Julien [Rodrigues] I think we could've won the race."

Eric de Doncker (#2 Matech GT Racing Ford GT) – 3rd Place
“First of all I want to say that I am very happy to be on the podium with all these teenagers!  I was waiting in the pitlane in case there was a safety car but I know Dino is faster than me and we wanted to take advantage of him being on the track.  We did a good pitstop; as Dino [Lunardi] said he lost some time on the last lap, so I went out of the pits behind Julien [Rodrigues].  The car was OK, the tyres were a bit old so I had a lot of oversteer, but I could keep a good rhythm.  When I saw the Audi I tried to stay in front, but I knew he was quicker than me and I wanted to score points. I'm very happy to be on the podium because we've had a lot of problems and this is a good result for all of us."

Cesar Campanico (#32 Team Rosburg Audi R8 GT3) - 4th Place
"The race was hard because in the European Championship the tyres are a bit softer than the ones we use in Germany.  The car at the beginning was very good, I think Nicolas lost just one place at the start.  He also lost a bit of time with Mamerow, about six seconds.  I then went out onto the track behind Haase, but we were 4th which was not bad. In the end was pushing to catch the third placed car but we had a problem with the traction control, which wasn't working, so I was really fighting with the car.  Even like that I could catch the third car, but I was really on the limit so I settle for the points, which was good. Hopefully we can do a better job in race 2."

Csaba Walter (#24 Alpina BMW Alpina B6 GT3) - 5th Place
"This was a great result for us, I think this track is good for our car and it is always improving a bit so we try to push during the race."

Diego Alessi (#17 Marc Sourd Racing Corvette Z06R) - 6th place
"The race was not so hard because thank to the new compound tyres the balance of the car is better at the end of the race than before.  Now our problem is performance. So at the end of the race we could keep a very good pace it was just that the Ford was faster than us, but the car is quite easy to drive. I didn't have to anything special just have a nice fight with Thomas Mutsch, which I think we both enjoyed, but I think we must have something on the car from the FIA to make the car more competitive.  We are really at the maximum we can do with the work we have."

Sean Edwards (#22 Trackspeed Porsche 997 GT3 Cup S) - 8th place
"That was very difficult.  David [Ashburn] made a great start, he made up a lot of places off the start and was the first Porsche and gave the car to me in a great position. I pushed hard to catch back up to the Morgan after the pitstops. He was on it and I was on it and eventually he ran a little bit wide and hit some gravel and spun with about five or six laps to go.  So I got the place and 8th overall, so from where we started in P22 this is a great result.  Hopefully tomorrow we can have a better."
